P. 3

The Sugarloaf CID is setting the stage for Downtown Gwinnett.
It’s hard to miss the cranes at the Infinite Energy Center in the heart of our district, and this is only the beginning of the construction you will see here over the next several years.
With this change comes a tremendous opportunity for the CID to help shape the future of Gwinnett’s Downtown. In 2018, the CID completed the Sugarloaf Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) Plan. Over the course of that plan, we heard some tough feedback – although we have many great assets in our community, the lack of walkability, disjointed land uses, minimal transit access, and lack of a sense of place means the Sugarloaf market is not as competitive as it could be.
One of our answers to this challenge is a plan for a trail system for
our district. The vision for the Sugarloaf area is trails that are not just recreational, but also a viable means of getting to jobs, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. We’ve also been very involved in Gwinnett County’s Connect Gwinnett Transit Plan that includes Bus Rapid Transit to connect the Sugarloaf CID to MARTA’s regional rail system.
Some of our early projects have included three new sidewalks, new landscaping, banners, and security cameras. We have many more projects underway and in the early stages of planning, including traffic improvements and signage to develop a sense of place.
We appreciate the support of our many partners who help bring these projects to fruition, and especially the CID members who are investing in the future success of our community.
